German born Maya van Look is in-demand dramatic soprano entertaining audiences across Europe with her Lieder recitals.

Maya is one of the few modern sopranos trained in the Montserrat Caballé and Leonie Rysanek style created by two of the world’s most prominent operatic stars who championed the natural maturation of the voice. This method encourages singers to develop and grow their talent over several years giving their voice impressive quality and longevity.

Under the expert tuition of maestro Vincent Aguettant from Paris, who himself was a master student of Caballé and Rysanek, Maya has been able to develop an stirringly dramatic voice that delights her audiences, offering them an unforgettable experience. Aguettant selects just a few of the most promising and committed young talents to follow his masterclasses.

Maya has a deep-rooted passion for music and visual arts – perhaps unsurprisingly since her great-grandfather, Prof. Dr. Hugo Starck, played with Richard Strauss and her grand-father was a passionate Wagnerian. Her mother’s family counted both the Wagner family and Richard Strauss amongst their close friends.

Both Maya’s parents are also passionate artists. Her mother being a talented pianist and her father an internationally renowned artist in informel painting, in sculptures and the making of stained glass windows.

While this rich and exciting environment lead Maya to discover and develop her talent for music from young age, it was not until later in life that she started to develop professionally her artistic abilities.

Fluent in German, English, French, Spanish and Italian Maya also has a deep love for travel and culture. While she is based in Switzerland, Maya regularly travels across Europe and uses her experiences to add further depth to her art.
